Leon Bridges is an American soul singer-songwriter. His newest song, Sweeter only confirms his broad talent of creating meaningful music. Leon wrote this song for the world to hear his side of the story and to hit them with a moment of reflection. He preaches that people need to become more open and accepting to those with differences. His music video included cuts to black men and women staring directly into the camera, almost like the sad animals begging for help in the ASPCA commercials. This song was most likely prompted by the huge surge in the Black Lives Matter movement after the death of George Floyd. The lyric “Instead I’m just a story repeating” reflects how black deaths continue to occur and there are no changes being made to stop the cycle. The speaker of this song is not just Leon, but any community whose voices are being stifled. "Sweeter"is a song calling society to action in order to create a difference.
